Brigades Def’n. Groups of passionate volunteers who mobilize toward positive social change.
Global Brigades (GB) is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Since 2004, Global Brigades has mobilized tens of thousands of university students and professionals through skill-based programs that work in partnership with community members to improve quality of life in under resourced regions while respecting local culture.
In 2008 I helped start UC Berkeley’s first Global Water Brigades chapter and went on two service trips in 2009 to Honduras as a volunteer on potable water projects in rural communities. After graduation, I joined the GB team in Ghana as the first Microfinance Program Advisor there and spent a year living in the town of Mankessim in Ghana’s Central Region and worked in several Fante (faun-tee) communities.
